This tree is a dense, conical to narrow-pyramidal evergreen tree that is native to much of the northern and eastern parts of North American.  Scale-like, aromatic foliage appears in flattened sprays and the bark will exfoliate on mature branches and trunks. It prefers moist, well-drained loams in full sun to part shade. It is not fussy about soil pH but is intolerant of dry conditions.
