Purple Joe Pye Weed
Purple or sweet-scented Joe pye weed is a tall native perennial, 5-6', found along the edges or in clearings in woods. large toothed leaves are in whorls around a thick sturdy stem. It produces many-flower clusters of rosy pink flowers in July to early August and is attractive to butterflies. It can be distinguished from spotted Joe pye weed by its earlier flowering, rounded flowerheads and less intense coloring.
