Hibiscus moscheutos 'Lord Baltimore' has huge crimson red flowers up to 10 “ across, the size of dinner plates. The petals are ruffled and slightly overlapping. At maturity it stands 4 – 5 feet high and blooms from mid July to September. It is hardy in zones 5 -9. The name Hibiscus came from the Greek word “hibiskos” that meant “marshmallow.”  The sticky root or stem of some plant in the mallow family was used at one time to make marshmallow confections.
