Zimbelstern Sneezeweed
Golden flowers surround a central gold and maroon disk on Zimbelstern sneezeweed (Helenium autumnale 'Zimbelstern'). Some of the petals may have a splash of red/maroon on the underside as well. This hardy perennial grows to 4 feet tall and prefers full sun and moderately fertile soil. Irrigation only during droughts will keep this selection of a native species from growing too lush and flopping over in the garden. The flowers attract many pollen-harvesting insects, and the seeds are eaten by songbirds.
