Hardy asparagus fern is a perennial also known as false asparagus, a reference to its lacy foliage with tiny needle-like leaves that closely resembles the foliage of the edible asparagus plant. Although it produces white flowers in mid-summer followed by red berries, it is grown mainly for its arching foliage that can reach 4 feet and turns yellowish-gold in the fall. Grow it in full to part sun where it will add texture to the garden and flower arrangements.
